In November 2023, Sun Life Malaysia commemorated Diabetes Awareness Month with a community outreach initiative, where we distributed 5,000 diabetes home test kits to B40 families, university students, media representatives, Sun Lifers, and the general public in the Klang Valley, spanning from Bukit Bintang to Shah Alam.
A special thank you to our community partners, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, Food Aid Foundation, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and more, for standing with us in promoting a diabetes-free world.
In addition to the test kits, we collaborated with HOPE Worldwide Malaysia to host educational talks on diabetes prevention, emphasising on the importance of a healthy body and mind in preventing diabetes risks. These sessions connected 150 individuals from the underserved communities.
2023 Brighter Health Blood Glucose Screening Programme Concludes on A High Note
On the other hand, we continued to champion diabetes awareness through a long-term blood glucose screening progamme, Brighter Health Blood Glucose Screening Programme, which was supported by 224 AM PM Pharmacy and Healthlane Pharmacy outlets nationwide.
This year’s programme received a resounding response, with an impressive 5,961 individuals screened from July to October 2023. This brings the total number of people screened to over 28,000 Malaysian adults since it was launched in 2019.
Similar to previous years’ findings, the screening results revealed a persistent trend of people with higher blood glucose levels, with 39% or 2 in 5 Malaysian adults screened showing higher-than-normal blood glucose levels. This is indicative of increased potential risks associated with insulin resistance, prediabetes, or diabetes.
