Shine On Edition

Despite the odds, 2021 was a positive year for Sun Life Malaysia as we reached new milestones together as a company.

Three months into 2022, we continue to see growing momentum in all aspects of our business – and are all set to embark on a Bolder & Better, Together journey by building on the strong foundation we have established over the past years.

A virtual townhall was held on 15 March to share the highlights of our performance in 2021. Our CEO, Raymond Lew, highlighted the need to push towards delivering amazing experiences to Clients, and continue to build on our leading track record in takaful, Client persistency and employee engagement.  He also touched on our Bolder & Better, Together theme which includes the need to constantly embrace digital technologies and innovative culture to keep us at the forefront of the industry.

At Sun Life Malaysia, people have always been the real driving force behind our solid performances. During the event, we honoured our dedicated Sun Lifers who have served the company for 5, 10, 15 and 20 years with a special long service award presentation ceremony. Some of our long-serving Management Committee members were also invited to share their heart-warming experiences working with Sun Life Malaysia.
 

We are extremely proud to announce our inaugural ‘Nurturing Sun Brighter Talent’ Scholarship award at a MOU signing ceremony between Sun Life Malaysia and the prestigious Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), held on 29 March 2022, at the 1 Utama branch office.

The scholarship award aims to help aspiring young talents pursue their dream education and at the same time, encourages them to explore building a career in the insurance and takaful industry.

Two aspiring students, Nor Halizah Binti Md Yusop and Hng Chong Khen, from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science & Technology of UKM, were shortlisted as the recipients for this first scholarship award.

Each of them was presented with a scholarship award worth RM65,000, a certificate and a MacBook. On top of that, they will receive an internship placement, and a permanent employment contract with Sun Life Malaysia upon graduation. Sun Life Malaysia will also support the professional examination fees of both recipients.

We look forward to creating a brighter, bolder tomorrow for our future generations!

This month, we celebrated International Women’s Day through a forum that discussed women’s health, a calming yoga activity, interactive game session as well as a fire chat session with our Chief Distribution Officer, Alvis Wee and Chief Risk Officer, Jay Zhong, on their views on women empowerment.

The event highlight was a forum discussion featuring inspiring women leaders, namely Shalin Zulkifli, former national bowler; Suzanne Ling, co-founder of PichaEats (a food company that works with marginalised groups), together with our CHRO, Azreena Che Omar and Chief Appointed Actuary, Lim Chin Har, who shared their personal stories on how to ‘Break the Bias'.
 

Over the past year, Sun Life corporate office has been working with offices around the world to uncover inspiring stories on what makes Sun Life different from other employers. Based on that valuable feedback, they have created a global vision which shines a light on us, Sun Lifers.

It’s a vision that is powered by our passion for our business, our Clients and supporting each other. The feedback outlines three pillars that capture the Employee experience at Sun Life - Shine together, Make life brighter, and Shape the future.

In the coming months, you will be seeing stories from Sun Lifers globally through a new campaign called “Your Sun Life Experience”. This fun campaign is focused on showcasing the employee experience at Sun Life, and highlights who we are today and what we aspire to be.

The campaign will kick-off with a “Tell Me Without Telling Me Challenge” inspired by the TikTok trend, to ask all of you to share why you love Sun Life. And who better to kick it off than our President and CEO, Kevin Strain!
