Fraud and Cybersecurity Awareness

At Sun Life Malaysia, we place great priority on the protection of our Clients' data. We are dedicated to putting in place strict security measures to safeguard our clients from fraud and scams, in support of Bank Negara Malaysia’s direction regarding additional steps to bolster security to combat fraud activities.

Scams and fraud take many different forms. If you suspect that you have been scammed, it is important to take prompt actions to minimise any potential damage. Here are the steps you can take:

  • Gather evidence: Collect any evidence related to the scam, such as emails, letters, policies, and receipts. This will help you build a case and prove that you have been scammed.
  • Contact the insurance/takaful company: If you believe that you have been scammed by a fraudster posing to be a member from your insurance/takaful provider, contact the insurance/takaful company immediately to report the issue.
  • Report the fraud/scam: If you have been the victim of fraud/scam or identity theft, file a report to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) within 24 hours of the scam incident and lodge a police report. For more info, visit Financial Fraud Alerts - Bank Negara Malaysia (bnm.gov.my).
  • Monitor your accounts: Keep a close eye on your bank and credit card statements and report any suspicious activities to your financial institution.

Remember, the key to preventing scams and fraud is to stay vigilant. Never give out personal or financial information to people or organisations you don't know, be wary of unsolicited calls or emails, and always double-check requests for legitimacy before responding.

  1. Change and use complex passphrases frequently.
  2. Never re-use the same passphrase for different accounts.
  3. Enable and use Multifactor Authentication (MFA) functionalities.
  4. Be wary of continuous MFA requests as it may be an MFA fatigue attack.
  5. Be extra cautious when downloading apps, attachments and clicking on web links.
  6. Do not disclose your personal or confidential information, especially OTP/verification codes.
  7. Be wary of eavesdropping and shoulder surfing activities.
  8. Free or complimentary Wi-Fi is never secure.
  9. Always lock your computer or devices’ screen after use.
  10. Update your computer, device, or apps frequently.
  11. Be wary of urgent, unfamiliar or fear invoking requests and unbelievable deals.
